Nuclear Risk and Public Control 2013-14 / Questions about the extension of Paks
Energiaklub Szakpolitikai Intézet és Módszertani Központ
Budapest
Energiaklub has been working on energy and nuclear issues for more than 20 years. The latest developments in these fields in Hungary show a strong governmental interest in the expansion of nuclear energy against sustainable solutions. After the first unit of Paks NPP got licence for extending its lifetime last year, these interests seem shifting to building two new units at the same site, while the lifetime extension of the remaining three existing units is still an ongoing process. Criticism and questioning the government’s policy and its concrete steps as well as those of the authorities and the power plant is essential. Energiaklub, as in the last two decades, will play a leading role in the alliance working on nuclear issues with the participation of the green parties and NGOs.

Association of Liberal Youth
Budapest
This project supports the European Citizen’s Initiative (ECI) to protect mediapluralism and freedom of media by gathering 16,500 Hungarian signatures. The target groups are the above mentioned and the providers and the consumers of the Hungarian media. Throughout the project the organization cooperates with several Hungarian and European NGOs, thus creating a European network of NGOs campaigning for strengthening democratic values.

Real faces of homelessness. Awareness raising and community funding campaign.
Green Spider Organisation
Budapest
The aim of the project is to dismantle prejudices against the homeless, and to test community funding as a means of fundraising and solidarity practice in social care. The program is especially relevant because of the policies of the past few years which mean that authorities can now sanction people for being poor. In the present project Green Spider creates a new type of individual support system: people can donate through community funding to support investment into things (training, tools, etc.) to enable the homeless to do something for improving their own situation. A successful community fundraising and its publicity can strengthen solidarity, it can make the methodology of the Van Esély Foundation more accepted. Besides the Város Mindenkié Group (\"The city is for all\") can reach its target audience with a much deeper and more detailed message and Green Spider Foundation can become more practiced in community funding.

Publicness revisited - a dialogue for a future media regulatory framework
Independent Journalism Foundation
Budapest
Since 2010, media regulation in Hungary has been criticized at home and abroad for not adequately guaranteeing media pluralism and freedom. These laws were elaborated with no prior consultation with the professional communities and the public, thus they did not build on widely discussed drafts. The Center for Independent Journalism – with the Mérték Standards Media Monitor - facilitates a professional and social dialogue to contribute to a long-term future media regulation based on a strong legitimacy and the European standards of media freedom. Journalists, representatives of media organizations, companies, civil society organizations, researchers and lawyers will discuss draft concepts of key issues - the regulatory authority, regulation of the media market, media literacy and self-regulation, public service media - at public debates and via online forum from October 2013. Based on the conclusions of the closing conference in February 2014, a final concept will be elaborated.

The beginning of a new era in the life of the Pensioners’ Club
Arrabona Urban Pensioner Association
Győr
The neded for the project arose from the understanding that the pensioners’ clubs activities should be better adapted to their everyday life and to the present opportunities, e.g. the members hardly learn anything about IT from each other. Therefore the aim of the project is to change the club's management modes. They want to make the life of the 44 clubs more colourful and attractive. New members will be involved into club management and the number of managers will be doubled to find representatives for new activities. IT should be used for information flow in the 44 clubs. Within the framework of the project the clubs get to know: the registration process of an NGO, grant proposal writing, the Internet, electronic administration, and acquire the skills to learn from each other. The results are useful for the 44 participanting clubs, but the changes will be felt by 2000 pensioners, and affect other 82 regional clubs where further 3000 pensioners can lern about the changes.

Creating/Building a Civil House in Végegyháza
Barangolo Public Benefit Organization
Végegyháza
One of the main problems of civic organisations in Végegyháza is to find a place for their programs, as the community centre cannot provide a regular place for the civic and self-organised communities. The local government can't take the financial and professional responsibilities to maintain the Civic House. A solution is to create a Civil House in cooperation with civic organizations (a union). The house can be a place for new services as well. The union plans to maintain the centre following an annual plan, made and authorized by the Civic Council and coordinated by the project promoter. This program provides the opportunity to set an example for small settlements, as it shows the power of citizens to develop their living place.

The outdoor furniture was chosen so it can be built by the youth (6 gabion banks and 3 wastebins were made.) The treeswere marked with info signs, a running path was created along the park and a small 400 sqm big football field was made from grass. Thus not only a leisure park was created in the St Istvan park, but an area that's suitable for PE and biology classes as well.

Renovating the Park of Friendhill
Green Connection Association
The association has been working since 2012 to create a joint concept for the renovation of a 42 909 sqm big degraded park in Diósgyőr. As a start they announced a poll to find a name for the park, and thus the place received the "Baráthegy Community Park" title. Lot of people responded to the call of the organization: more than 100 plates now show the names of tree adopters around the park. With the help of local people the park received 25 fruit and 115 decorative trees and they started to create a bypass path for the dog walkers. Two special bins for dog waste and a few benches were placed as well. The local government and entrepreneurs supported the costs of a basketball hoop and carpenters made two special benches.
